There are various programs available for first time home buyers, but now most programs which used to be exclusively for first time buyers also allow for borrowers who have owned homes before. There are certain state and local government sponsored bond issues, but these are forever changing and require constantly staying abreast of the availability of these funds. Also, there are programs such as the Birmingham Home Ownership Center which helps first time buyers become educated on what it takes to buy a home, before they actually begin the process.
